F84G Thunderjet

An Turkish F-84G model jet plane.It was used by Pilot Tegmen Erol Fercan.It was under the command of the 192´th air Fleet.The plane took off from her base at Balikesir on 23/8/1958.Because of an engine failure the jet crashed into the sea & exploded.The local scuba divers dived the wreck & brought the pilot´s body to the surface;wrapped in his parachute.The wreck was later forgotten & the pilot was buried at the Edirnekapi Military Graveyard.The wreck was located by a diver named Ferdi Yüksel in ??/09/2009 at 16 metres depth at Ayvalik.The cocpit & the hull of the aircraft is intact;but the engine & wings are broken.This wrecksite is now opened as a diving site for tourism.
